Ford Motor Company, and its local distributor Regent Motors, today officially launched the iconic Mustang in Singapore – one of a select number of markets in Asia to receive the new, all-American muscle car.

For the first time in more than 50 years, Singapore fans can now own a piece of Mustang history for themselves, Supported by a state-of-the-art, turbocharged 2.3-litre EcoBoost producing 317PS of power and 432Nm of torque, the iconic pony car delivers heart-pounding performance, and features an array of safe and smart technologies.

The all-new Mustang is priced from SG$253,888, and is available in eight high-performance colours, including Competition Orange, Guard Metallic, Deep Impact Blue Metallic, Magnetic Metallic, Ruby Red Metallic, Black, Ingot Silver Metallic and Oxford White.

“Mustang is truly the heart and soul of Ford, and the all-new Mustang takes its no-compromise, raw power and performance to a whole new level,” said David Westerman, managing director, Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company.

The all-new Mustang’s sleek design is a modern and muscular interpretation of the classic. It is more aerodynamic, more fuel efficient, more powerful, and with world-class handling and precise steering control, even more fun-to-drive than previous generations. With eight airbags and driving assist technologies like Electric Power Assisted Steering it’s also smarter than ever before.

“We are thrilled to give our customers in Singapore the opportunity to become part of a global family of Mustang enthusiasts,” said Foo Tee Boon, managing director, Regent Motors.

“Mustang inspires passion like no other car. It resonates with people, even if they’ve never driven one – and I know Singaporeans will jump at the chance to experience the thrill and excitement of this fantastic performance vehicle.”

ALL-NEW SHAPE, YET UNMISTAKABLY MUSTANG

The clean-sheet design for Mustang evokes the essential characteristics of the brand, retaining key design elements – including the long sculpted hood and short rear deck – with contemporary execution. Balancing world-class dynamics to deliver a superior ride quality, drivers can feel both confident and at ease in the Mustang.

Leaving an everlasting impression on drivers and passengers, an aviation-inspired cockpit provides accessible information and controls. The attention to detail in sculpting the Mustang can further be seen in the high degree of craftsmanship found in its interiors. Large, clear instrumentation puts vehicle information right in front of the driver in the roomy cabin, while thoughtful ergonomics and tactile switches and knobs provide precise control.

THE MUSTANG EXPERIENCE

Mustang delivers exactly what a driver expects – a broad, flat torque curve that pours out when one steps on it for easy passing, or hustling down a twisty road. No stranger to raw horse power, this ‘pony car’ – so called because of the category of high-performance, accessible, compact sports cars it started in 1964 – flexes its muscles with the state-of-the-art 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine.

The engine uses direct injection, variable cam timing and turbo charging to deliver fantastic performance and fuel efficiency. A unique intake manifold and turbocharger housing enable it to deliver the performance Mustang drivers expect, with 317PS of power and 432Nm of torque, making it more powerful than the original V8-powered 1964 Mustang.

The power plant is complemented by a smooth, six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, making the pony car a great all-around performer. SelectShift gives drivers the thrill of using a manual transmission with the ease of an automatic. Simply toggle the race car-inspired paddle shifters on the steering wheel to shift gears up or down, for smooth and effortless gear changes without having to use a clutch.

Active grille shutters help increase fuel-efficiency by further reducing drag at higher speeds when extra cooling capacity is not needed. The shutters can completely close off the grille, sending air over and around the car instead of through the engine compartment.

NEW LEVELS OF TECHNOLOGY AND SAFETY

Equipped with an array of smart and innovative technologies, the Mustang is definitely smarter than your average pony. It features the award-winning Ford SYNC 2 connectivity system that allows drivers to perform various commands hands-free.

The Mustang is also big on safety. The car is equipped with five airbags for driver and passengers, and has an additional two side-curtain airbags among a myriad of standard safety features aimed at protecting both drivers and passengers.

Other key technology and safety features include:
— MyKey – program that promotes good driving habits, such as seat belt use, limiting vehicle’s top speed and decreasing audio volume
— Intelligent Access with Push Button Start
— SOS – Post-Crash Alert System
— Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
— AdvanceTrac with Electronic Stability Control (EBC)
— Rear View Camera

Ford Mustang is built at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant in the United States.

Mustang’s arrival to Singapore complements the existing lineup of global Ford vehicles currently available in the country, including the Fiesta, Focus, and Mondeo passenger cars, Kuga SUV and Ranger pickup trucks.

At the 18th International Engine of the Year Awards held in Stuttgart on 1st June 2016, the 1.2‑litre three-cylinder Turbo PureTech petrol engine developed by PSA Groupe was named ‘Engine of the Year’ in the 1-litre to 1.4-litre category by a panel of international journalists. The award received for the second time is just the latest achievement for the engine model, which is manufactured at the Française de Mécanique plant in Douvrin, France.

Expanding the range of new generation PSA Group petrol engines

Due to the popularity of the three-cylinder petrol engine family, PSA Groupe has decided to increase its production capacity to support the energy transition. Nearly 370,000 Turbo PureTech engines have been produced at the Douvrin plant since 2014. An additional production capacity of turbo petrol engines will be manufactured at the Trémery plant in eastern France, lifting potential annual output to 670,000 engines by 2018.

Reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions while optimising vehicle performance

With 120 patents to its name, the three-cylinder Turbo PureTech petrol engine cuts fuel consumption and CO2emissions by 18% compared with its four-cylinder petrol predecessor. The engine holds two fuel economy records. It claimed its first in Europe in 2014, with a manual transmission vehicle. Its second came in China this year, when an automatic model travelled 1,878 kilometres on a single tank, achieving a record-breaking 2.93 litres per 100 kilometres. The engine also offers one of the most comfortable driving experiences on the market – even at the lowest speeds – and the best low speed/power compromise: 130 hp with torque of 230 Nm.

The 1.2 PureTech 110 hp and 1.2 PureTech 130 hp engines are fitted on B and C segment vehicles. First launched in March 2014 on the Peugeot 308, the PureTech engine is now fitted on more than 60 different models worldwide, including the New Peugeot 3008 SUV unveiled on 23rd May 2016.

Commenting on the award, Christian Chapelle, Vice-President, Powertrain and Chassis Engineering, PSA Groupe, said: “Receiving this award for the second year in a row is a testament to our technological expertise and efforts to optimise our engines and reduce their environmental footprint while at the same time delivering high-quality performance.”

The 1.2-litre PureTech petrol engine is currently featured in the 208, 2008, 308 and 308 SW in Singapore.

Ford and its local partner Regent Motors today officially launched the new Focus. Stylish, packed with an array of smart technologies and powered by Ford’s award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, the new Focus offers Singapore customers a perfect blend of power and fuel efficiency.

The new Focus 1.0-litre is available in 10 exciting colours: Frozen White, Blazer Blue, Race Red, Absolute Black, Deep Impact Blue, Moondust Silver, Magnetic, Iceberg, Lunar Sky And Caribou.

“With its smart and safe technologies, the new Focus offers an unmatched driving experience, and now with the added fuel efficiency benefits of our award-winning 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine, which delivers an exhilarating fun-to-drive experience,” said David Westerman, managing director, Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company.

The new Focus 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost engine pumps out an impressive 125PS of power and 170 Nm of torque, and was named overall ‘International Engine of the Year’ for an unprecedented three consecutive years. Helping drivers harness this power is a new, lightweight and efficient six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, for the ultimate sporty drive. This combination delivers a 14 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency compared to the current 1.6-litre Focus.

Equipped with up to six airbags, the new Focus gives drivers extra confidence with the latest safety technologies like Enhanced Transitional Stability, which can predict a skid and step in early to potentially prevent a loss of control. Also offering drivers extra peace-of-mind is Ford’s ultra-bright bi-xenon High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps, and front and rear seatbelt reminders.

The new Focus also features Auto Start-Stop technology, which turns the engine off to save fuel when the vehicle is stopped, then restarts the engine in milliseconds when the brake is released.

“The new Focus’ performance, handling, fuel efficiency and smart technologies means it is the perfect match for Singapore – for how we live, how we drive, and what we want from a small car,” said Foo Tee Boon, managing director, Regent Motors.

“The addition of the Focus 1.0L completes our EcoBoost lineup in Singapore – with all Ford passenger cars in our showroom now benefiting from the increased power, increased fuel efficiency, and lower emissions offered by EcoBoost technology.”

CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGY

The new Focus features a host of cutting-edge technologies to help drivers stay connected and in control.

Chief among these is SYNC 2, the latest generation of Ford’s in-car connectivity system that boasts an eight-inch colour touchscreen to operate phone, entertainment and climate control using a simple voice command system.

The new Focus even allows owners to encourage safe driving when they are not behind the wheel, with Ford MyKey. Owners can programme a spare key to reduce the maximum speed of the vehicle, give an earlier low-fuel warning, limit the volume of the in-car entertainment or even disable it completely if the seatbelt is not fastened. The technology can provide reassurance to owners when lending their car to less experienced drivers.

EFFICIENT, POWERFUL AND FUN-TO-DRIVE

The new Focus is powered by Ford’s 1.0-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost petrol engine, which was named overall ‘International Engine of the Year’ for an unprecedented three consecutive years from 2012-2014, and best in its category for five consecutive years from 2012-2016. (Click here for more details on our most recent win.)

The engine uses the core EcoBoost technologies of turbocharging, high-pressure direct fuel-injection and Twin-independent Variable Cam Timing to ensure optimum performance.

On the go, the new Focus takes the nameplate’s class-leading driving dynamics and fun-to-drive DNA to a new level with enhanced handling thanks to carefully tuned suspension and shock absorbers that make the vehicle more solid and responsive.

A more refined Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) system further improves the driving experience with more precise steering and lower effort, while reducing unwanted damping and providing excellent feedback to the driver.

Ford’s tiny yet powerful 1.0 liter EcoBoost engine has been voted best in class at the International Engine of the Year Awards for the fifth year in a row. Judges praised its combination of drivability, performance, economy, refinement and technology that continues to set the standard.

The frugal three-cylinder EcoBoost engine was named “Best Engine Under 1.0-liter” by a panel of 65 automotive journalists from 31 countries, meaning that it has won in its class every year since its launch. This year it finished ahead of 32 competitor engines, 19 more than it competed against in 2012. Significantly, 2015 also saw an increase in competition from global automotive manufacturers of sub-1.0-liter, turbocharged engines with direct fuel injection.

In 2014, the 1.0-liter EcoBoost became the first engine to be named overall International Engine of the Year for a third time in a row. In 2012 it was also named “Best New Engine.”

“The 1.0-liter EcoBoost was a game-changer, and despite others following our lead, it remains the undisputed benchmark in its class five years on,” said Trevor Worthington, vice president, Product Development, Ford Asia Pacific. “It represents how we continue to innovate to bring our customers the mileage they need and the power they want in Asia Pacific with more EcoBoost engines across our growing product lineup.”

Available in 72 countries worldwide, the power-dense 1.0-liter EcoBoost engine has challenged drivers’ perceptions of the capabilities of smaller engines: A road-legal Formula Ford race car fitted with a high-output version of the engine lapped Germany’s famous Nürburgring circuit in 7 minutes 22 seconds, putting it ahead of a host of supercars including the 600+ horsepower Lamborghini Aventador, Ferrari Enzo and Pagani Zonda.

In Asia Pacific, the multiple-award-winning engine is available in several markets in the Fiesta, EcoSport and Focus.

Globally, Ford’s range of powerful yet fuel-efficient EcoBoost engines includes 1.5-liter, 1.6 liter, 2.0-liter and 2.3-liter four-cylinder engines, and 2.7-liter and 3.5-liter V6 engines. The last of these powers the all-new Ford GT supercar, which will return to racing in Le Mans later this month.

In response to growing consumer demand for more fuel-efficient vehicles in Asia Pacific, EcoBoost engines are now available in more than 20 vehicles, a five-fold increase from 2012. Last year, one in four Ford vehicles purchased in Asia Pacific were equipped with EcoBoost engines.

“That it’s won the overall award three times and keeps getting the jurors’ votes now highlights just how special Ford’s 1.0-liter EcoBoost is,” said Dean Slavnich, co-chairman of the 18th International Engine of the Year awards held in Stuttgart, Germany, and editor-in-chief of Engine Technology International magazine. “It’s a fantastic testament to how down-sizing and greater fuel efficiency needn’t mean sacrifice in other areas like power, refinement and drivability, and can even help enhance these elements.”
