Singapore, 16th September, 2014 – On 28th September, more than 30 employees from Regent Motors will be spending 6 hours volunteering their services in bringing wheelchair-bound elderly from Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital to visit the Singapore Zoo, as part of their weekend day-out activities. Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital is a charitable organization that is heavily dependent on public support and is focused on providing standards of care and service to their residents.

The Ford – Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital Zoo Day Out activity is one of 310 community service projects to be completed during Ford Motor Company’s ninth annual Global Week of Caring. In all, more than 13,000 volunteers from Ford operations on six continents – Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America – will contribute 81,000 hours of expertise and labor to improve their communities.

“Ford Global Week of Caring is one of the many ways Ford and its employees are going further to improve the quality of life for people in the communities where we live and work,” said Jim Vella, president, Ford Motor Company Fund and Community Services. “Ford employees embrace the company’s legacy of caring and the importance of giving back. As Ford expands globally, our commitment to creating a better world grows with it.”

“In Singapore and across the region, it’s fantastic to see our local team banding together to make a difference in their community,” said David Westerman, managing director, Asia Pacific Emerging Markets, Ford Motor Company. “From improving schools and constructing water wells, to cleanup projects, employees and dealers across the region are inspiring us by the way they’re working together to improve their communities.”

In addition to thousands of employee volunteers taking part in Ford Global Week of Caring, the company also is contributing $348,000 to nonprofit agencies to purchase the tools, supplies and materials needed to complete many of the community service projects.

In Asia Pacific, 5,300 Ford volunteers will participate in over 80 projects in China, India, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Philippines, and Malaysia, as well as seven emerging markets. Projects across the region this year include:

Malaysia: Distributing hundreds of meals and food supplies to the less fortunate
Cambodia: Building an education facility at a primary school in a rural area
Laos: Volunteering at a local hospital
Guam: Cleanup at school bus stops, volunteering at a retirement home, fundraising for the Boy Scouts of Guam
Vanuatu: Roadside and beach cleanup and donation of water tank to the local community
Tahiti: Cleanup and rejuvenation project at a local orphanage
New Caledonia: Helping young children with intellectual disabilities by providing educational materials and toys
Thailand: Conducting a recycling program and installing educational equipment at a school
China: Cleaning up coastlines and rivers

While the Ford Volunteer Corps is active throughout the year, Ford Global Week of Caring is the highlight of a year-round effort to flex the volunteer muscle of Ford employees, retirees and dealers to make a positive difference in the neighborhoods and communities where the company does business.
